DEEP FRIED DRAFT
Baker Mayfield has the right mindset to play the position. He never lets anything bother him. He is always uplifting his teammates. The little things I saw him do at the Senior Bowl stood out to me. Mayfield was behind other players waiting for their turn and was doing shadow reps to get ready for his next rep. Mayfield has more than enough arm strength to make the NFL throws. He gets through his progressions quickly. He snaps the ball out of his hand quickly with no hitch in his release. Mayfield’s accuracy is without peer. He completed over seventy percent of his throws over the last two years. His accuracy doesn’t suffer when he is on the run. Mayfield can make plays with his feet when he has to but only seems to do so as a last resort. His eyes are always down the field when he moves in the pocket. Mayfield has excellent ball placement. He does a nice job of throwing his receivers open and changing his arm angle when pressure necessitates it.
Baker Mayfield is one of the most accomplished college football players in history. Outside of UCLA QB Josh Rosen, he is the most pro-ready of any other QB in this draft class. The Drew Brees comps for Mayfield are legit. I expect him to hear his name called early in Round One.

Today we are going to break down one of the most polarizing college football players to ever play the game. Baker Mayfield was a 3-star quarterback prospect from Lake Travis HS (Austin, TX). He had offers from Florida Atlantic, Rice, and Washington State, but chose to walk-on at Texas Tech. Mayfield started seven games as a true freshman. He made his debut against SMU with 413 yards and four touchdowns. He was injured late in the season, falling behind on the depth chart, and decided to transfer to Oklahoma. Mayfield sat out the 2014 season and then proceeded to start every game after that for the Sooners. He set the FBS record for passing efficiency each of the last two seasons. This culminated in winning the Heisman Trophy following the 2017 campaign.
2016: Auburn (Bowl)
2017: Ohio State, Iowa State, Texas, Georgia (CFP), Senior Bowl
DFD COOKBOOK RECIPE
The first thing most people will criticize him for is his height. If it is a problem for him however you don’t see it on the field. His footwork can get away from him sometimes. This is most noticeable on some of his deep passes. Mayfield will also get pinged for his brash attitude. I personally don’t care that he planted an OU flag at the 50-yard line of Ohio State’s stadium or that he grabbed his gonads in the direction of the Kansas bench. There will be some NFL personnel departments that this does bother, however. Mayfield was arrested in the early morning hours of February 25th in Fayetteville, Arkansas and was charged with public intoxication, disorderly conduct, fleeing and resisting arrest. The last charge was dropped. Mayfield reached a plea deal on June 14th. I don’t know how much this will help or hurt his draft stock.
