DEEP FRIED DRAFT
I question whether Goedert is legitimately 6’4” tall. If he isn’t that could hurt his draft stock. I do not think he will blaze a fast forty, but he has enough speed to play the position well. I noticed what may be a tell in his game. When he lines up inline, Goedert tends to lean forward when he is taking a free release from the line. This is just a minor nitpick that can be easily cleaned up. Level of competition is always a concern for players coming from the FCS (and below) levels.
Dallas Goedert is the real deal. It is a breath of fresh air to see a tight end in today’s game be such a willing blocker. Then have that player still be a main focal point of his team’s passing offense. I look forward to watching him grow more as a player this season. I truly hope he and teammate Jake Wieneke get a Senior Bowl invite. A Top 100 ranking for Goedert is definitely in play.
Goedert can line up inline or in the slot. He is a good route runner. Goedert gets himself open and presents an easy target for his quarterback. He has the toughness to take a shot over the middle and still hang onto the football. Goedert is a good run blocker, using his leverage well. He has tremendous run after catch ability. He has the ability to win on 50/50 balls.
DFD COOKBOOK RECIPE
South Dakota State
126 receptions, 1877 yards, 14 touchdowns
Today we are going to look at one of the top FCS prospects available for the 2018 draft. Dallas Goedert was so well thought of coming out of Britton-Hecla HS in Britton, South Dakota that Rivals didn’t even list him as a prospect. He redshirted his first year on campus and played sparingly the following season. As a sophomore, Goedert caught 26 passes for 484 yards and three touchdowns. He really emerged as a junior. Goedert was a unanimous All-American selection. He set a Jackrabbit record with 92 receptions. He tallied 1293 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns. Against Western Illinois, Goedert caught snagged eight balls for 204 yards and four touchdowns.
