DEEP FRIED DRAFT
234 attempts, 1823 yards, 18 touchdowns
14 receptions, 126 yards, 1 touchdown
Today we will take a look at one of the most explosive offensive playmakers available in the 2018 draft. Derrius Guice was a five-star recruit from the backyard of LSU at Catholic HS in Baton Rouge. He chose the Bayou Bengals over Alabama. He was the #2 rated running back (behind Alabama’s Damian Harris) and the #15 ranked overall player. As a freshman, Guice appeared in twelve games and averaged a tremendous 8.5 yards per carry. This past season, he started six games for the injured Leonard Fournette (#4 overall pick in 2017). Guice led the SEC in rushing with 1,387 yards. He set the LSU single game rushing record against Texas A&M with 285 yards.
2015: South Carolina
2016: Auburn, Southern Miss, Florida, Texas A&M, Louisville (Bowl)
As a pass blocker, Guice puts in the effort but with only so-so results. He is not asked to run a variety of pass routes.
DFD COOKBOOK RECIPE
You will be hard pressed to find a more explosive running back in this draft than Derrius Guice. Now that the stigma of drafting a running back in the top ten seems to be gone, Guice could very well hear his name called in that range.
The first you notice about Guice is his burst. He explodes through the line once the ball is in his hands. Guice is dynamic in the open field. He breaks tackles, shows good balance, and maintains his focus. I only saw one negative yardage carry in six games. Guice does a good job following his blockers and maximizing his yardage output. He is also tremendous in the weight room. Guice squats 650 pounds!
