DEEP FRIED DRAFT
Career Stats: N/A
Today we are going to look at a center prospect that I wasn’t familiar with until recently. Daniels joined the Hawkeye program after being a four-star recruit from Harding HS in Warren, Ohio. He saw action as a reserve as a freshman. Daniels started 11 games at center as a sophomore and 12 games as a junior.
2017: North Texas, Penn State, Ohio State, Boston College (Bowl)
DFD COOKBOOK RECIPE
I would like to see him pull more. I also understand that is more of a product of the offensive scheme run at Iowa than anything that would be his fault.
If you need a center in this draft you are in luck. I hesitate to say any player is flawless but James Daniels is pretty damn close. He has a rare combination of athleticism, power, and technique. I don’t think a Top 15 draft selection is out of the question and he should easily be in round one.
Daniels anchors extremely well when facing a bull rush. He has excellent hand usage. Daniels is technically savvy and never seems out of position. He is a people mover in the running game. Daniels get off his first block quickly to get to the second level. He shows great velocity on his shotgun snaps. Daniels and allowed zero sacks or pressures in the five games I watched. Against an Ohio State front with several potential NFL Draft picks, he was especially dominant.
